The professor is the character Kukui and has a mysterious assistant called Lillie. Your new friend is called Hau.

For those of you in North America, a special gift is now available over the Nintendo Network. This gift gives you the Legendary Pokémon, Xerneas. To top it off, this is the only way to get Xerneas in its Shiny aesthetic. To get it, go to Mystery Gift > Receive Gift > Get Via Internet.
